Tekamah-Herman Schools is posting the following information from the City of Tekamah regarding the status of the traffic signal located on HWY 75:
“After numerous attempts by the city and Dan Allison proposing appropriate repairs to the light, the State of Nebraska sent an email on June 26th stating they would not allow repairs and the electrical cabinet needs to be fully replaced. They also stated that it needed to be done by only a state approved electrician. There are only 7 state approved electricians and of those 7, only three are in our area. We have finally received a bid from one of those companies. However, the timeline for a permanent fix is closer to November. We are working with them to get a temporary light in place to facilitate the children crossing. I honestly have no idea why the State of Nebraska took so long in making their determination that repairs would not be allowed or why someone like Dan could not make these repairs given that the sole purpose of this light is to get our children across the highway safely.”
Arrival and dismissal crossing guards have been assigned to assist THS students in crossing the street safely.
