This week Mrs. Eriksen's students in small groups made an interactive vocabulary wall during reading instruction. They made some really good connections and linked weather words and how that affected the characters in our story. Way to go kindergarteners!

Have you been wondering what Mr. Paul's 8th graders have been up to this quarter? Well, here is your answer! "The 8th graders decided to go an entirely different route with building this quarter. Rather than building a traditional box or even a cutting board, they decided to get as much use out of as many tools as possible in order to get hands-on experience. That being said, we decided to make soapbox cars and almost entirely out of wood. We did use nails and screws and brad nails, but it allowed us to use a drill, an impact, a brad nailer, drill bits, drill press, router, band saw, sanders, table saw, circular saw, jig saw, miter saw, and many other tools to make this happen. The axels were made from wooden dowels, but we put pvc around them just for support. The eyelets for the rope were metal, the pivoting bolt was metal (because it was safer and failed in earlier trials with wood), and of course the rope. It was a long project and most wanted to stop by about the last two weeks, but we continued on to finish what we started. Once we finally raced, the kids really enjoyed the fact that their projects worked and got the feel of accomplishment for the work and time they put into it!" - Brad Paul What a fun project!

On Tuesday, March 14th, Math 7 and Math 8 students celebrated pi day by learning about the history of pi, discovering pi, and eating pie! Students were able to discover the value of pi through inquiry activities which helped to solidify their conceptual understanding of C= πd, the formula for the circumference of circles. They were able to practice applying the formula and creating line plots of the radii of circles. Students also reviewed making a frequency chart utilizing the first 50 digits of pi, creating a bar graph with the information in the chart, and then comparing the data displays. Last but not least, students were able to enjoy a sweet treat! A fun time was had by all!
