On February 13, 2023, the Tekamah-Herman Board of Education appointed Abby Mathistad to fill the board vacancy created by Paul Potadle.  Mathistad was present at the regular monthly board meeting to accept her appointment and to read the district’s Code of Conduct. She will finish out a 4-year term ending in December of 2027.

Abby is a 2005 graduate of Tekamah-Herman Schools. After graduation, she then attended South Dakota State University for her undergraduate and graduate programs. She is a Registered Dietitian.  Abby currently works for Medtronic Diabetes, as a Senior Clinical Territory Manager. Along with her husband Brandon, they own Riverside Auction and Sales here in Tekamah. They have three children to keep them busy; Cade (7), Cora (3) and Colby (1).

Prior to her appointment, Mathistad served on the District’s community committee responsible for working with architects and board members to prioritize issues surrounding the school building. More recently, she served on the Superintendent search and interview committee formed to replace Superintendent Gross at the end of the 2022-23 school year.

Abby is excited to begin her new role on the school board. She explains she accepted the appointment because she wants to give back to her community. This community has been a huge part of her life as well as her family's. Volunteering time and digging into the issues surrounding our school district is a good way to give back. Mathistad is no stranger to serving her community. She served on Tekamah Chamber of Commerce's  board for three years, as well as, President.

When asked what interests her the most about serving on the school board, Mathistad explains, “I am interested in understanding more about what goes into the decision-making process and learning all sides of the situation. I am also very excited to be a part of the future of our school district. With a new Superintendent coming this summer, I look forward to working with and supporting him, alongside the other board members.”

Welcome Abby, we are happy to have you representing Tekamah-Herman Schools!
